Cars are the primary means of transport to work within the Ballarat community and around 2/3 of trips are made by one person with no passengers {ABS 2006}.
Only 5.7% of trips were made as a passenger in a car, 3.7 % of people walked to work and 1.2% rode their bicycles. Just 0.9% of people used buses to travel to work in Ballarat, which is slightly lower than for Melbourne {1.0%} but higher than Bendigo {0.7%}.
According to Environment Victoria, by substituting 25% of private car travel with public transport, cycling or walking, Victoria’s projected CO2 emissions for 2020 could be reduced by 1.16 million tonnes or 8.3% of the 2006 transport emission total.
Some ways to make your car use more efficient:
share the trip and take someone else in the car with you
have three or more reasons for hopping in the car and make that trip worth while

Don't forget, you can always take the bus. Click here for the Davis bus timetable for the Ballarat region. It is speedy and convenient - it only takes 10 minutes to get from Lydiard St to Mt Helen campus of UB by bus!
