Questions from Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions group (BREAZE) 1. What have you personally done to help reduce carbon emissions in the last 2 years? Installed energy efficient light bulbs, turn off appliances at wall. Install curtains with backing. 2. What 3 things that help reduce carbon emissions would you like to see implemented during your term of office? I am not aware of the council having implemented any policy on reducing its carbon emissions. But some items that should be looked at are replacing fleet vehicles with more efficient ones, look at how the council offices can be examples for residence such as replacing lights bulbs to energy efficient bulbs, turn off appliances when not needed, change to green energy suppliers and look at recycling within the office and also within parks and gardens. 3. If elected, how would you go about implementing a more sustainable approach to housing in Ballarat? Residential and commercial developments should be more sustainable and more energy efficient. All houses should have rainwater tanks and have them connected to toilets and laundries have outlets for waste water to be used in the garden. Housing developments should be designed so that blocks are positioned to gain the most from natural lighting and heating to reduce carbon emissions. 4. As a councillor, how would you inspire or show leadership to the community of Ballarat to adapt and actively respond to climate change? I will be proactive to look for the opportunity where the council can be examples for the community to implement energy efficiencies. 5. How will the city of Ballarat measure its success in reducing carbon emissions? By measuring it’s utilities statements monthly and to measure long term return on investments when purchasing equipment and when addressing developments. |
