Another wind farm approved, and more yes verses no debate. A quiet achiever in the renewable energy debate is bioenergy.
The Regional Sustainability Alliance (RSA) Ballarat (of which BREAZE is a member) recently held a talkfest about bioenergy, with the aim of getting enough do-ers in the room to get some ideas off the ground. We managed to get some fantastic enthusiasm in the room and are now working on a couple of ideas that may see bioenergy be produced from waste product in Ballarat.
One very interesting speaker at the bioenergy forum was Jock Charles from the Berrybank Piggery in Windermere. The pig farm is generating electricity from pig manure and then using the waste from that to make potting mix! They even create their own fertaliser to use on the pig feed. It is an amazing story about how we can use every bit of 'waste' we make to create something else.
The best news for us Ballarat people is that the bags of manure are available to use in our veggie gardens. The mix is called Grow Better and is available from various places around Ballarat including The Friends of Royal Park
The Friends of Royal Park are also the place to go to get your self watering pots. Perfect for those small back yards or renters that cannot create your own veggie patch. This 'unseasonal' spring weather has the gardens roaring along. Have you planted any vegies this year? No space you say? Grab a Greensmart pot.
How do you think we should be generating renewable electricity?
