BREAZE members rallied in Ballarat today to show Ted Baillieu their support for renewable energy and express their concerns about his recent changes to wind farms and solar feed in tariffs.
In what can only be described as Ballarat's finest appalling weather, over fifty people gathered to hear Simon Reid speak on the future of solar and yours truly on the loss for Ballarat of jobs and economic development from the new wind farm laws.
The new wind laws will deprive Ballarat of a new growth industry that should be creating ongoing jobs in parts manufacture, servicing and training.
Taken together the new laws on wind and solar are a blow for renewable energy in Victoria and make it harder for us to transform our highly polluting electricity generation sector to cope with a low-carbon future.
We then visited Ted Baillieu's Ballarat office and delivered an invitation, signed by all those gathered, for him to come and meet with us in Ballarat to hear our concerns.
Needless to say, we eagerly anticipate his response and will be reporting back to BREAZE members on it when it arrives.
