“The scorecards clearly show that neither the ALP nor coalition is taking the issue of climate change seriously,” said BREAZE Community Campaigner, Andrew Bray. “We want to tell the voters of Ballarat that if you don’t like the climate policies of the party you vote for, don’t vote for them. Call your local candidate and tell them why they won’t be receiving your vote.” The scorecard rates the climate policies of the three major parties – the ALP, the Coalition and The Greens - and shows that only The Greens have policies that will see emissions come down in Australia by 2020. It is supported by the Climate Institute’s Pollute-o-Meter which shows that by 2020 emissions will rise by 19% under the ALP and 8% under the coalition. They would fall by 25% under The Greens policies. “The dangers to our economy and the environmental health of our region from climate change are too great to ignore but that is just what Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard are doing.” “Why should we reward these parties with our vote when they so manifestly fail to lead on an issue so central to our future?” concluded Mr. Bray. |
