Friday, 23 July, 2010BREAZE today slammed Julia Gillard's proposal for a citizens' assembly on climate change as a nothing more than a cynical excuse for delay on climate action. “People have been telling opinion polls for years that they want action on climate change, people in Ballarat have been acting to make their lives more sustainable and the ALP has been telling us since before the 2007 election that a carbon price is necessary to tackle climate change,” said Andrew Bray, BREAZE Community Campaigner. “This kind of idea might have made sense 10 years ago but to bring it up now is just an attempt to legimate their backflip on a carbon price.” “Julia Gillard told Australians less than a year ago that 'delay is denial'. You can't say you accept the science of climate change and propose indefinite delay at the same time. Julia Gillard has shown she's no stronger an advocate for climate action than Tony 'climate change is crap' Abbott.” “The Australian public has every right to feel let down by both major parties. Both Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard have failed the credibility test on climate, especially putting a price on carbon pollution now.” “BREAZE wants to see immediate and strong action on climate change from our federal government. Throughout the election campaign we will be urging Ballarat to Vote Climate and make climate policy the issue when they vote.”
