As part of our 2011 Sustainability Series, the BREAZE Community Engagement & Education Group and the University of Ballarat are pleased to present our first event of the year, Connected Communities.
In order to live sustainably, we need to live differently. We invite you to come along and learn about two successful and sustainable initiatives - Cohousing and The Sharehood.
COHOUSING: Cohousing is a contemporary way of living that combines private home ownership or rental with shared facilities, activities and decision making. It's a topic that interests many and continues to gain momentum. Cohousing developments are popping up in Heidelberg, Melbourne’s inner North, Sydney and in the Blue Mountains. Experience overseas suggests that a city like Ballarat is ideal for cohousing.
• Learn about cohousing from experts and enthusiasts from Cohousing Australia • Find out why cohousing is a major solution for social and environmental problems • Discuss ways to initiate cohousing in Ballarat
THE SHAREHOOD: Is all about sharing resources within your neighbourhood and helps you to meet and make friends with people in your local area. All sorts of things can be shared, such as sewing machines, vegetables, wheelbarrows, tools, cars and books. Skills can be shared too: gardening help, bike fixing, language skills, childminding, how to make wine or dance the tango!
• Learn about the benefits and how to get involved
WHERE: The Brewery Lecture Theatre, SMB Campus Lydiard Street South WHEN: Saturday 5th march, 2-3.30pm ENTRY: by gold coin donation MORE INFO: http://www.communities.org.au/ or http://www.thesharehood.org/
