Questions from Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions group (BREAZE) 1. What have you personally done to help reduce carbon emissions in the last 2 years? I've participatedin tree plantings along the Yarrowee River and organised on site assesssments for Ballarat Environment Network and Council reps along the Yarrowee. Personally, I only drive when necessary and travel by train. 2. What 3 things that help reduce carbon emissions would you like to see implemented during your term of office? Reassess the Council car fleet and its usage. Solar for Council buildings. No Councillor junkets intersate or overseas. Expand Council recycling for residents and industry. Revegetate along waterways. Recycle gret water. Introduce watertanks. 3. If elected, how would you go about implementing a more sustainable approach to housing in Ballarat? Get decisions made regarding above at Council meetings and Committee meetings 4. As a councillor, how would you inspire or show leadership to the community of Ballarat to adapt and actively respond to climate change? Ride my bicycle; Reassess Council re-current Budget re carbon footprint; push State and Federal Government alternative energy policies at local level. 5. How will the city of Ballarat measure its success in reducing carbon emissions? Carbon Emission Trading comes in 2010 and Council will be assessed according to the Scheme markers and criteria. It's time to get ready NOW and not be found wanting when the time comes. Also, by assessing how well Council has recycled heritage infrastructure so it has maximum sustainable use for the future. |
